I am a College Essay Tutor

  • Tim Clinton, PhD
  • Degrees: English, History, Film History, Theatre History
  • Professional Background: Teacher at Columbia University, Queens College, and Horace Mann
I will give you a secret: So many teachers don't like teaching and they don't care to take the time to get to know students. There was an ad a years ago that said it best:"The hardest job that you will ever love." My favorite couple (my parents) were both teachers, and by the time I was 3 it was going to be my chosen profession. They made it look like fun; like a gift to give to other people. When they bought me a cardboard store, I threw out the cans and cash register and turned the store into a library with my books. As I grew up, I always did well in my classes. I loved English and History, and through those studies I became fascinated by Theatre and Film. When I began to apply colleges, my first choice was Columbia; I felt that I had a good chance because my grades were excellent, and so were my SAT's. I had also been a high school tutor. Still, I felt that I should apply to other schools. I could not believe when the head of admissions called me and said that my essay was wonderful, and that I was the first person to be accepted! He said that everyone loved my knowledge, my sincerity, my writing, and my bits of humor threaded through the essay. When I began in the fall, he asked me to visit his office and showed me that everybody had copies. Let my tell you- it was a proud moment! Like my parents, I have a strong prowess for details. As a teacher, I have said, "It's the details that give the bigger picture in every way."

My Clients

I have know Timothy Clinton for more than 10 years, first as my son's history teacher and later in other subjects. Mr. Clinton is always, caring and reliable, industrious and gives his best to every pupil; in turn, they grow under his guidance. My husband and I can't give him enough credit for every he has done.

-Bonnie Gale

I want to commend Tim Clinton for his gifts in teaching English, History and Film but also in the Independent Study program. He mentored a senior who spent the year writing a screenplay. He helped her with encouragement and guidance from the first day until she found that she was going to NYU to major in filmwriting.
